What makes an Amazon agency report useful

A useful Amazon client report explains what changed, which products caused it, what the agency believes happened, and what will happen next.

An Amazon agency report should make the next conversation shorter.

The client needs to understand what changed, why it matters, and what happens next. A packet of screenshots and exported campaign tables moves the work of interpretation back to them.

The first page should tell the story

A client should be able to answer four questions from the first page:

  1. What happened to the business?
  2. Which products caused the movement?
  3. What does the agency believe happened?
  4. What is being done about it?

If the answers require a 30-minute walkthrough, the report is functioning as storage rather than communication.

Start with the business, then show the channels

Lead with total revenue, units, average selling price, sessions, conversion, and availability. Add contribution margin when the agency has reliable cost data.

Advertising belongs inside that business context. ACOS can improve while total sales decline. Ad-attributed sales can rise while organic sales weaken. A campaign result is easier to judge when the reader can see TACOS, total sales, traffic, and margin beside it.

A compact scorecard might include:

MetricCurrentComparisonChangeInterpretation
Ordered product sales$420,000$450,000-6.7%Decline concentrated in two parent ASINs
Units ordered18,20020,100-9.5%Unit demand weakened more than revenue
Average selling price$23.08$22.39+3.1%Price and mix offset part of the unit decline
Sessions211,000226,000-6.6%Traffic explains most of the loss
Unit Session Percentage8.6%8.9%-0.3 ptsModest conversion pressure
Featured Offer percentage97.2%97.5%-0.3 ptsOffer ownership remained stable

The example uses both absolute values and percentages. A percentage alone makes it difficult to judge materiality.

Show which products moved the account

List the products with the largest positive and negative contribution to the change. Use child ASINs when the action belongs to a specific variation.

Avoid a leaderboard of every product. The report should account for most of the movement and leave the long tail in an appendix.

For each material mover, include:

  • Absolute sales and unit impact
  • Sessions and Unit Session Percentage
  • Featured Offer and inventory status
  • Price or promotion change
  • Advertising change when relevant
  • The agency's current explanation

This prevents a flat topline from hiding one product surging while another declines by the same amount.

Separate fact from interpretation

Use explicit labels:

Observed: Sessions fell 24 percent beginning August 12. Featured Offer percentage stayed above 98 percent.

Likely explanation: Organic visibility weakened after the promotional period. Paid impressions also declined, but they explain only part of the traffic loss.

Next check: Review priority keyword placement and category demand by August 16.

This makes uncertainty useful. The client can see what is established, what is inferred, and what evidence comes next.

Keep an action log in the report

Carry unfinished actions into the next report. Removing them every month makes recurring problems look new.

Put depth in the appendix

The appendix can hold campaign tables, search terms, SKU-level data, placement reports, inventory detail, and experiment results. Operators may need all of it. The first page does not.

This split serves both audiences. The executive can understand the account quickly, while the person working in Seller Central can inspect the evidence.

Write the headline last

After the analysis, summarize the period in a few sentences:

Revenue declined 6.7 percent as traffic weakened on two high-volume parent ASINs. Higher average selling price offset part of the unit loss, while Featured Offer percentage remained stable. We are investigating organic placement and reduced ad impressions. Inventory is healthy, so no client action is required this week.

That is a report. "Performance was mixed this month" is an invitation to open twelve more tabs.

The best agency reporting reduces surprise. It keeps the client oriented, makes the agency's judgment visible, and gives both sides a shared record of the decisions being made.
